You too should see if you can fix your dryer before paying for a professional. Here are some common causes of an overheating dryer and what to do if your dryer gets too hot.
The most common cause for an overheating dryer is that air cannot freely flow around the machine. Hot air then accumulates inside the drum which only gets hotter and hotter.
Usually, the air flow is blocked by a buildup of lint. Take the lint filter out the front of your dryer and scrape what you can off with your fingers. If there is stubborn dirt on the lint trap, rinse it with warm water to help shift it and leave to dry completely before putting it back inside the machine.
The dryer’s thermostat is what measures the temperature inside the machine and feeds back to let it know whether it needs to adjust the temperature higher or lower. A faulty thermostat means that the dryer can’t regulate its heat.
You can find the thermostat in the back of the dryer. Turn off the power to the dryer and then remove the back of the machine. Take out the thermostat and install a new one to stop your dryer overheating.
