The last thing you want from your dryer is for it to make your freshly washed clothes smell bad. However, poorly looked after and old machines can often create a nasty odor that needs fixing.
To avoid problems like this, always get your home appliances regularly checked by our professionals who can catch issues early and prevent problems like smelly washing from arising.
If your dryer has a bad smell, there is usually a simple fix that you can carry out yourself before splashing out on a new dryer. Here’s how…
When drying clothes, small bits of fabric come loose which is known as lint. Dirty lint can accumulate inside you dryer and be the cause of this bad smell. To get rid of the stench, all you need to do is remove it.
To do this, remove the lint trap found in the front of your dryer. Use your fingers to gently scrape off as much lint as possible and throw it in the trash. If it is really dirty, wash with running water and leave to air dry. You can then reinsert the clean lint trap into the machine.
If wet clothes are left in a dryer for too long, mold can start to grow, which then thrives in the warm and moist environment. This can be why your dryer has a bad smell.
To remove any mold from your dryer, mix bleach with warm water according to the packet instructions and use a cloth to wipe the bleach around the inside of the drum. This will remove any mold. Afterwards, rinse the drum with warm water to remove any excess bleach. Be sure to allow the door open so the drum can dry before closing the door to prevent more mold from forming.
